Intraoperative TEE

Basics

  • Standard views and echo-anatomy of aortic and mitral valve
  • Case presentations – Common mitral valve pathologies
  • Pre-bypass evaluation of common mitral valve pathologies (2D, 3D and CF Doppler)

Moderate Mitral Valve Insufficiency

  • Case presentations – Moderate mitral valve insufficiency in pre-bypass evaluation
  • How can intra-operative echo help in decision making?

Evaluation after Mitral or Aortic Valve Replacement

  • Case presentations – How to analyze dysfunction of the mitral valve prosthesis
  • Quantify and localize paravalvular leakage, interpret gradients across prosthesis
  • Case presentations – Abnormal echo findings after aortic valve replacement
  • Evaluate gradients across prosthesis and DF Doppler jets in the LVOT

Evaluation after Mitral Valve Reconstruction

  • Case presentation – Residual Insufficiency after mitral valve reconstruction
  • Case presentation – SAM after mitral valve reconstruction
  • How can intra-operative echo help?

Aim of the course

Based on the interactive discussion of echo findings from real life cases, attendants should obtain the basic knowledge to interpret intra-operative transesophageal echo findings relevant for valve surgery and learn about the most important limitations and pitfalls of intra-operative echocardiography.
